A message from the blogger-in chief
This blog was created to help people name their boats.
The Boat Name Blog is one of several businesses catering to boaters in the New England-based Nautical Sites Network, including FirstBoat.com and two websites that (just like this blog) focus solely on boat names. In fact, this is the official blog of
Boat Name Gear where you can get cool stuff with your boat name on it
In 2007 I launched this blog as well as Boat Name Gear, a site that sells shirts, hats, welcome mats, and other items that you can custom order with your own boat name on them.
But the groundwork for this business really began more than 30 years earlier. Growing up on the Connecticut shoreline, summertime meant boating time for me and my family. Whether fishing or just hanging around the beach or the docks, spotting the names on the backs of boats was something I always enjoyed.
The slow ride through the harbor was always beautiful, but even more interesting when we talked about the boat names that we passed.
I even remember feeling a sense of pride when spotting a Connecticut hailing port while traveling, even if just across Long Island Sound to Port Jefferson or Greenport, New York.
It was also exciting to see exotic locations on the backs of boats that had traveled up from the Florida Keys or the Bahamas or down from the coast of Maine. To this day, I still find myself admiring the boat names as much as the scenery no matter what harbor I'm in around the world. If you've ever felt that way too, or if you just need help naming your boat - or want to lend a hand to a fellow boater - then you're on the right site.
I hope you find these sites helpful in naming your boat, or in simply enjoying the boating lifestyle.
And if you decide to buy personalized products from Boat Name Gear, or if you browse any of the websites in the Nautical Sites Network, thank you in advance for stopping by - I truly appreciate it.
